Joel Bouwers is an ELL Consultant and Adjunct Instructor at Des Moines Area Community College's Urban Campus. He holds a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction (TESOL) from the University of Kansas. He has taught adult English learners in community colleges, nonprofit, workplace, and online settings, working with diverse populations including refugees and pre-literate learners. His teaching is grounded in culturally responsive practices, critical self-reflection, and a commitment to equity, responsibility, and authentic connection with learners.
